We are delighted to announce that Karim Lekadir, ICREA Research Professor and BCN-AIM Lab Director, has joined the Institut de Neurociències at the Universitat de Barcelona (UBneuro) as principal investigator leading the new AI for Mental Health Group. Karim’s appointment marks an exciting step in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of AI, neuroscience, and mental health research.

Founded in 2015, UBneuro brings together neuroscientists from across the Universitat de Barcelona to explore the nervous system at every level, from molecular and cellular mechanisms to behaviour and cognition. The institute is recognised for its international excellence in neuroscience research, integrating fields such as neurobiology, clinical psychology, neurology, and cognitive science to address some of society’s most pressing challenges.

As part of UBneuro, the AI for Mental Health Group will expand the institute’s efforts to use advanced AI approaches to better understand mental health disorders and develop tools that can support early detection, personalised interventions, and improved outcomes.
